This has been on my mind and heart the last while, and I want to share it with you.
This past weekend, when yet another friend on Facebook was whining about something, or someone, or some issue, it got me thinking - if we complained less and prayed more, imagine what would happen?
Paul writes to Timothy, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior” 1 Tim 2:1-3.
We’re to pray for them, whether we agree with their policies or not. This is good, and pleases God.
A couple of weeks ago, we were blessed to be part of an anniversary service for Spryfield Christian Community Church. The speaker there had a lot of challenges, but one small phrase has stuck in my mind. "Do something".
With those two thoughts in mind, I extend an invitation to anyone in our area to join with me at Open Door Community Church, 11 Aldergrove Drive, from 7:00 – 8:30 pm on Thursday, June 20 for a time to pray for our leaders – national, local, political, business, secular, religious – whomever comes up.
Simple prayer time. No sermon, no ceremony just a fellowship of prayer. It will be agenda-less since I don’t want to pray about pushing any specific issues, nor pray that God blesses a specific point of view, interpretation, opinion or favored outreach.
We are setting this time aside as a non-denominational/ecumenical corporate time for petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving solely for “kings and all those in authority” - for our leaders, for out city, our province, our country and world impact.
We hope to see you on June 20.
